AMC is definitely in the ABC building on the far west side of Manhattan with The View. OLTL is a few blocks east of it. I wonder what they'll use AMC's studios for, if this is true. But I feel like there's more to this story. If ABC moves them, there has to be another reason to do it besides "AMC can't afford the rent". Like they'll use it for Ugly Betty or something. They're not just going to let a ready-made studio go to waste, or give it to something that isn't guaranteed to be a permanent move. |

Wasn't there a story recently that said OLTL's studio was leaking or something and needed to be renovated? I seriously doubt AMC, if it leaves it's studio, will ever return to it, but that could be one of the reasons why AMC is moving. There was a rumor reported by Nelson months back that suggested AMC and OLTL may have to share the same studio in the New Year because of renovations to OLTL's studio. Maybe Frons decided to ship AMC to a new studio and let OLTL occupy the space while AMC's studio gets fixed. Now...what they will place in that studio when it's fully renovated is anyone's guess. This is great news for OLTL fans, because it shows that at least Frons still cares about OLTL. I guess this will isolate AMC and make crossovers(i.e. baby switch) less possible as a result. |

How much you wanna bet if AMC and OLTL end up having to share studio space, that, Pine Valley people will be popping over to "Llanview" and Llanview residents will be making more stops to "Pine Valley" lmao. You know just to cut down on cost for putting up and taking down sets lmao. Sadly I give it maybe 5 years and soaps are gonna be a thing of the past. :frown: |

Tammy, that's not a bad idea from a financial and network synergy standpoint. I bet they probably thought about it too. Assuming that each hourlong ABC shows has two stages, what would probably be cost-efficient is if they used all the "shared" sets on one stage and permanently keep those up and swapped out six/seven smaller sets(people's houses, businesses, etc.) for the second stage. For example, if they retconned PV's Proximity to Llanview(making it alot closer than just a river separating the two), PV and Llanview could both share a mall or shopping center and maybe have all the quirky dining spots and bed and breakfast in small town Pine Valley, while having the nightclubs and shady hangouts in metropolitan, trendy Llanview. Both shows would use the same sets, hire some cheap dayplayers to be the bartenders, waitresses, or managers for both shows. Each show would work out continuity issues with one another(i.e. if someone holds up BJ's at gunpoint on Friday on OLTL, making sure that no Pine Valley characters interacted at BJ's until the crisis was resolved on OLTL that Monday or whenever). From there, they have all these sets(that are real sets, not like the bullshit GL built) that are permanently there, never moved, and then from there, each show can play six/seven sets on the other with maybe one additional set they can swap out for the week. AMC could shoot five/six shows in three days(Monday-Wednesday), OLTL could shoot five/six shows the other three days(Thursday-Saturday). It's cost efficient because you're using the same stages for both shows, one stage that doesn't need to be struck or moved around at all. Both stages are being used Monday-Saturday. It would suck because it might put alot of people out of work or force them to seek jobs elsewhere. But, on the plus side, it would be great for the actors who would only need to come in for three days instead of five or six, and it would keep either show from moving to a new studio. If AMC does move to a new studio, I bet they go to a studio that is non-union where anyone can get hired to work, ala GL, when they moved from where they were to CBS Broadcasting Center, which I believe is also home to the CBS Evening News. I just don't get where AMC found the money to bring back Morgan, Williams, Budig, Vincent I, and to pay for Ehlers and Goldin. Personally, I think Ehlers and Goldin aren't even needed and a waste of paycheck. However much I did enjoy them on GL |
